Tourette syndrome in children: causes and treatment

answer
Tourette syndrome is a neurological disorder characterized by involuntary vocalizations and motor movements, as well as physical tics. The condition usually manifests in the early years of life, showing itself before the age of 18. Although there is no known cure for Tourette syndrome, it can be managed with proper treatment.
Causes
Tourette syndrome is caused by changes in parts of the brain that control movement and thought processes. This condition can be inherited from family members who have similar symptoms or may develop as a result of trauma to the head or exposure to toxins such as lead paint chips or gasoline fumes. It may also occur without any apparent cause.
Treatment
The most effective way to treat Tourette syndrome is through medication called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), which regulate chemicals in the brain that affect moods and emotions. Other medications may also help control symptoms but will not eliminate them completely. Behavioral therapy may also help reduce tics by teaching patients how to relax their muscles when they feel an urge coming on so they can resist performing them voluntarily instead.”
